DIY Shaped Scarf Headband
From halter tops to galaxy scarves, the SDN gals can’t get enough of crafty, creative, and innovative ways to use (and reuse) our favorite accessory. That’s why we’re beyond thrilled to bring you our latest series: The Scarves Dot Net DIY Challenge.
Today, we can’t wait to introduce this do-it-yourself shaped headband from Brittany of The House that Lars Built. A twist on the traditional style, this scarf-made headband really pumps up the volume!
I’ve always wondered how to add volume to a headband or turban. I’m not sure if there’s a universal trick I don’t know about, so I created my own — with wire! With just a single wire in a scarf or piece of fabric, you can transform a simple headband into any shape you wish: a big bow, a huge turban, or a simple tie.
Supplies:
- Scarf (I used this one)
- Wire
- Wire cutter
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
Step 1: Sew the length of the side of the scarf.
Step 2: Sew one end of the scarf.
Step 3: Cut a piece of wire a couple of inches longer than the length of the scarf.
Step 4: Bend the wire at the end into itself, making sure there are no sharp edges.
Step 5: Insert the wire into the open space of the scarf.
Step 6: Sew up the last edge of the scarf.
Done-zo! Now you’re ready to shape it to your heart’s content and create your unique shapes.
A big thanks to Brittany of The House that Lars Built for transforming our Shannon scarf into such a versatile accessory!
