5 Ways to Add Scarves to Your Summer Wardrobe
Math was never my favorite subject. Although I wasn’t particularly dreadful at it, numbers didn’t inspire me like words did. You see, I’m a writing, quote, and literature kind of gal. And of course, I’m a fashion kind of gal, too. :)
So when I saw Refinery29’s recent post on Fashion Math, I grew a little weary — until I realized they were adding together pieces of clothing rather than adding together polynomials. The Scarves Dot Net girls loved (as usual) Refinery’s post so much that we were inspired to create our own outfit arithmetic using our favorite summer staple: scarves.
Listen up, class! Here’s how you can work those scarves in even the thickest of summer heat.
Look 1: City Stroll
This scarf look has easy-breezy sophisticated style written all over it! For a scorching summer day in the city, pair a flowy floral dress and a bright, casual scarf with a striped bag and neutral sandals. Once the sun starts to set, throw on a structured white blazer that’ll take you from daytime chic to downtown dinner date in a jiffy.
Look 2: Beach Bum
Beach (or pool) bummin’ calls for cool layers that can take you from sand to sunset in just a few pieces. Pair a sheer blouse with your go-to cutt-offs for a look that’s summertime sexy without trying too hard. Carry a cute bag (or backpack) big enough to fit sunscreen, a magazine, water, and those other essentials, and pick a pair of shoes that are comfy enough for grabbing lunch seaside, too. Make that scarf big and bold: perfect as a cover-up from harsh rays, a blanket for cool breezes, and making a sweet style statement!
Look 3: Backyard BBQ
Backyard BBQ’s with family and friends always bring out my playful preppy side. The SDN girls absolutely adore stripes, and we think they’re chicest when mixed with other patterns! Try stripes on stripes, throw on a similar-hued chevron printed scarf, and keep the rest of your accessories simple and solid-colored. Jean jackets are making a huge comeback this season, so keep one with you for the impromptu bonfires later on. :)
Look 4: Concert Chic
Summer concerts are the perfect time to to experiment with hippie inspiration, lighter fabrics, and neutral accessories. We adore this look, because it adds a little bit of all three, and of course, a chic vintage-inspired scarf that doubles as a neck piece or a cute head wrap. Hands down, this outfit is as effortless as the California girls at Coachella.
Look 5: Summer Soiree
Summer soirees scream for some serious color! We love brights, especially a classy orange dress that’ll turn heads — and break hearts. For fierce, warmer hues like orange, try gold, nude, and black accessories. For the bold, try a gorgeous color block combo with a deep purple scarf! You can wear this skinny scarf as a necklace, tie it around your wrist as a bracelet, or even looped around your purse handle.
