How to Make Polka Dot Plates
We have a “spot-on” DIY just for you. This easy decoration piece will be perfect for your bedroom or even your next party. Your guests will be seeing spots with these polka dot plates. No, really! In a good way…
What You’ll Need:
- Candlestick (Grab a few from Goodwill, like we did!)
- Two plates – One large & one small (Get these from Goodwill, too.)
- Spray paint (We used “Krylon Metallic Gold.”)
- Acrylic paint (This is what we used.)
- Circular sponge brush (One that is usually used for stenciling, like this.)
- Silicone adhesive sealant (This is similar to what we used, but ours was from Wal-Mart.)
How-To:
Step One: Spray paint the candlestick. Let it dry overnight.
Step Two: Pour the acrylic paint into a small bowl. Dip your sponge brush in there!
Step Three: “Polka dot” the plates, if you will, by gently pressing your paint-dipped sponge brush to the dishes. You can make a pattern, but our polka dots are randomized. (We think it’s more fun that way!) Let the plates dry overnight.
Step Four: When all elements are dry, take the sealant and spread an even layer on the bottom of the candlestick. Use a steady hand to place the base of the candlestick on the center of the upward facing bottom (large) plate.
Step Five: Now spread the sealant on the top of the candlestick. Grab the smaller plate, and center the bottom of that plate on the top of the candlestick. Press and hold for a minute! Then, let the sealant dry overnight.
We created another one using a bowl as the base.
Enjoy these festive creations!
